I completely forgot about this thread I've spoken to both GNS and Hutson in the past regarding the feud and there is not the remotest doubt that Hutson was the aggressor, and originator of the Smith baiting (and happily admitted it). Harris and a few others (including Herbert) jumped on the bandwagon, though usually prompted by interviewers. Some right old cobblers was printed in Fear, among other publications - proof positive of the quite hilarious immaturity of Hutson, Harris and a handful of no marks who have long since faded into obscurity.

The last post is correct. Hutson did indeed start this feud and its exactly what he wanted to do stir up a lot of trouble to go with his bad boy tag. The took the bait and bit. I have spoke to Shaun Hutson and he has told me exactly what he thinks of other writers. Herbert and Barker were two he mentioned. He states to always have respected Stephen King though. And to throw in another bone I read once that Nick Sharmans THE CATS was the piss poor book that got him stewing. Although I have seen him mention Guy NSmith.
To be honest I think Hutson is great. But I do find it very very sad he has no respect for others. Let the other writers do their thing and he can do his own. And Guy N Smith has given us some great trashy treats.

It was interesting to see that Hutson refrained from slagging off GNS whilst once again re-telling his "how I got into writing horror fiction" story in his recent interview for The Paperback Fanatic: Perhaps he's beginning to think better of slagging off fellow horror authors...

So...how did he get into writing horror? See post no. 1 However, in the Paperback Fanatic interview, he decided to omit the "I can do better than this shit" comment, and instead simply said something like "this is something I can do".

Interesting! If anyone's got the original 'I hate GNS' interview, could they quote that part on here - we can compare it with this one then! Wonder why he's backtracked?

Wonder why he's backtracked? I expect (and I'm only guessing here) that Shauny-boy lost a lot of respect from fans and perhaps even fellow authors for this uncalled for slagging-off. Perhaps he's also now matured a little and seen the error of this unnecessary and unprovoked insult. Whatever the reason for the omission of the 'I can do better that this shit' point in his story, I'm glad he's now decided on telling the story without slagging off good old GNS. To be honest, I lost a lot of respect for Hutson because of it. Anyone else similarly lose a little respect for him because of his comments?
