I'll gladly let it drop at this point. I have not PM'd you, and don't intend too. Which is the nub of the problem, I'm as clueless now as I was before. PM's are "Private Messages", and therefore a one to one communication. Whereas this board is, indeed, a public board. What is so secret that it can't be shared? And once I know some fact, how could I possibly not bring it to the next public discussion of this subject??! Hence, it would be silly letting me know anything if you want it private. Essentially - I'd happily tell others in public, this isn't a court of law, after all - just a forum that exchanges information/opinions between members and guests. Guess I'll never know. I'm certainly not going to bang on about it. In the end I have no idea what the problem is. If people have got things wrong, then your insistence on keeping things "private" (and out of a public forum) will do nothing but ensure mistakes and errors continue to be made. I'm sticking with that then. That's the end of it for me. Hence, I won't post again in this thread.

I know that everyone's playing the 'forget it and move on' card. But I do like a good contretemps, especially when it's involving something that I'm quite interested in. Hence, like a complete bar-steward, I'm going to rekindle the flame and throw another cat amongst the pigeons. Please don't take offence to this Darrall, but your PM did in no way include any controversial or groundbreaking insight. The one and only fact that you brought to the table was that it was in an interview with good old Terry Wogan. Basically, all my vague memories that I was referring to on this thread were pretty damn correct. I stated that I thought it was in an interview with someone like J Ross or something. Yep yep...it was an interview with Wogan. Similar sort of affair, I'm sure you'll agree. I stated that I thought it was around the early 90's. I was pretty damn close with that guess too. When the link to an interview with Mr Ross was posted up, I watched it and then posted that it wasn't the right interview. Noone stated that it was in any way evidence that it was where the 'feud' began. Dude, you really need to read all the posts in order to follow the progression of this thread. So...I see absolutely no reason whatsoever why you would have been biting your tongue. Nor indeed any serious inaccuracies that have been posted thus far. I fear (and correct me if I'm wrong here) that you were merely trying to announce that you had obtained some 'inside info' that you thought you had. It came across as sounding quite smug though. Especially when you remarked that other people had previously made some 'serious inaccuracies' (even though noone had). This in my mind was far from cool. I for one felt quite patronised by that remark. No doubt you didn't mean this though! I guess that maybe you hadn't read all of the previous posts correctly. But in future, you really should check over all the posts beforehand if you're going to make a comment of this nature!!! At the end of the day, my vague memories were as near as damn it correct. There was indeed a feud between the two. It did start off when Hutson proclaimed that he had read N.O.T.C. and thought "I can do a better job than this". It was in an interview around the early 90's (and was revealled to be with Wogan). My memory was pretty damn good, don't you think? Thank god for that. I thought I was going mad for a while back there. Finally, has anyone else picked up on how smug I now sound in this post?

I have not PM'd you, and don't intend too. No need. The PM just stated everything I'd already posted. No further info. No great secret. No need for all the coyness. Everything that was in the PM was previously posted on here. Darryll's great insight was that it all started in an interview with Wogan, not Ross. Nice to have it all cleared up now though. This thread has been fun. I hope there's no hard feelings at the end of it all. It's only banter at the end of the day...

Which is the nub of the problem, I'm as clueless now as I was before." Which makes me wonder why you posted that reply at all - especially since you posted before to say you didn't want to get involved in the subject under discussion. "What is so secret that it can't be shared? And once I know some fact, how could I possibly not bring it to the next public discussion of this subject??!" I don't understand this at all - you don't want the details, but you're asking more questions anyway? "If people have got things wrong, then your insistence on keeping things "private" (and out of a public forum) will do nothing but ensure mistakes and errors continue to be made." Only if people decide they don't want to know the relevant details, which is the position you've taken. "That's the end of it for me. Hence, I won't post again in this thread." Good call. I'll be replying to other people's posts, but I too am happy for you and I to leave it there.

"But I do like a good contretemps, especially when it's involving something that I'm quite interested in." Agreed. These boards wouldn't be the same without a bit of 'lively debate,' would they? "Please don't take offence to this Darrall, but your PM did in no way include any controversial or groundbreaking insight." No, and I never claimed that it would, either here or in private messages. It simply struck me that, as someone who'd had answers from both parties about the dispute in question, I might be in a good position to provide more details. "The one and only fact that you brought to the table was that it was in an interview with good old Terry Wogan." That, and the responses of both parties to my questions on the subject, and the views of a certain person on other well-known horror writers (which I didn't think it would be a good idea to post here). By the way, I thought the point about the interview was an important one, since the one on YouTube contained no reference to any dispute between the two writers. Anyone hoping to learn more about the subject of the thread would have been disappointed with the video. "Dude, you really need to read all the posts in order to follow the progression of this thread....I guess that maybe you hadn't read all of the previous posts correctly. But in future, you really should check over all the posts beforehand if you're going to make a comment of this nature!!!"Now who's being patronising?? Lol. For what it's worth, I might as well add that I wasn't entirely sober at the time of my early posts (*cough*), so I might well have skated over some sentences without fully understanding them, or even missed some point entirely. But I did read the whole thread before posting. Incidentally, in the posts people have made here and the pm's I've received about this, I've so far counted 5 incorrect spellings of my name (including your 'Darrall'). It seems I'm not the only one not reading things properly before responding (for future reference, you could always try sticking to 'Darra,' my online alias ). "So...I see absolutely no reason whatsoever why you would have been biting your tongue. Nor indeed any serious inaccuracies that have been posted thus far." Yes, I'll give you that, since even I'm not quite sure what I was saying there (see above). "I for one felt quite patronised by that remark. No doubt you didn't mean this though!" You're right - the last thing I want to do is get a reputation for being 'difficult' on a board like this (not least because I'm a massive horror fan and enjoy reading the threads). Late nights and an excess of Stella have a lot to answer for. "Finally, has anyone else picked up on how smug I now sound in this post?" *whistle* ;D

Fair play to you man....a good response. Nice to see someone else who doesn't take themselves too seriously. Sorry about the confusion with your name. Easy mistake to make. Although when you said "It seems I'm not the only one not reading things properly before responding" to be honest, I don't recall you posting up your name in this thread at any stage. If you had then I might have twigged then and there. But sorry all the same. You can call me 'cat piss' for the next week if you want... Anyway...all is forgotten now. My initial query has been answered. Everything has been wrapped up nicely. I can quite happily say with a final tear in my eye, that this little thread has come to an end.

Not quite true - I've covered this in my previous post. "Darryll's great insight was that it all started in an interview with Wogan, not Ross." I thought it was an important point, but others obviously disagree with me about that. Oh, and look - another mis-spelling of 'Darrell.' "This thread has been fun." Oh yes - the most fun I've had on here in quite some time, actually! "I hope there's no hard feelings at the end of it all. It's only banter at the end of the day..." Hard feelings?? No way! I can't imagine anything more boring and pointless than a message board where people don't feel free to say what they mean. If people have differing strong opinions about things, that makes for a good debate - and threads like that are generally much more interesting to read than ones where everyone broadly agrees.

Cat p*ss - our last messages here seem to have crossed in the post, as it were. My user name is actually my real name - but of course, you weren't to know that, so no probs. I agree - let's wrap the thread up here. My WoW characters aren't going to level up by themselves!

Not quite true - I've covered this in my previous post. Did you? Well...it's pretty much the case. The inclusion of GNS thinking of sueing Hutson was the only thing in the PM that hadn't already been mentioned on this thread prior to your PM. Again...sorry about the constant misspelling of your name. Won't happen again Darrayell I swear!!! Now respect the GAME OVER screen dammit!

Didn't Stephen King once once said that the only reason he continues to write horror books is to stop that Dean Koontz who is a big, bald, big girls blouse, from becoming the number one writer of horror. He also said that all his books are shit. Honest guv. He did say that. I saw the clip on You Tube.
