There are some authors I read for just for a purely fun time, but every now and then I like to read something by a craftsman. David Niall Wilson is one of those authors. he crafts a well thought out enjoyable stories, that are written with such style and skill, that it lifts them above the trappings of the genre.
In this one from DNW, we are introduced to Cletus, a jack of all trades who is among other thins a private investigator, ordained minister and a lawyer. When his long time friend Jasper comes knocking at his door with the news of a body sticking out of a fishing hole, the pair are thrown into a rip roaring adventure that that throws almost everything barring the kitchen sink into the mix. Swamp witches, alien abduction albino twins and genetic research.
If it wasn't for DNW's skill with plotting and story telling this could easily have turned into a disjointed lets throw everything into the mix and see what sticks novella. However, DNW stitches all of these elements into one damn fine novella. If Repairman Jack is indeed righteous, then Cletus J. Diggs is awesomely righteous
