Anyone been to any of these? I've never been tempted - but then, I've been put off writing by a lot of 'how to write a book' books in the past. Rhys Hughes isn't a fan, either. Check dis: simonmarshalljones.wordpress.com/2010/08/20/guest-blog-rhys-hughes/So perhaps some of you have attended a course and found it useful. Or was it? Please let me know - and in the meantime, here's the reason why I stayed away from them:

I joined the writers bureau a few years ago and received the information pack. Oddly enough, it told me nothing I didn't know already.

I did a creative Writing Course with the OU last year. Complete waste of time and money. Really basic and not one mention of horror anywhere. I don't think the lecturers were particularly impressed with my gore soaked tales either. I did pass though so I am a fully qualified writer...take that Stephen King. Seriously though I wouldn't do another course, if anything it put me off writing for a while

I've not used them myself and the only how to book that was any use to me was Stephen King's On Writing. I think if you're serious about the craft, you'll write and write and learn and work hard to get better anyway. But I can see how a group or class can help if it is a good one. I think finding a good one though is a hit and miss experience.
