Why is it so expensive? £10.99 seems a little steep for a paperbook.

It's a high quality medium-sized paperback, on a relitively low print run, by a small independent publishers. So it has higher overheads than more mainstream publications will, with an expected smaller audience.
However, it's worth every penny in my mind. And your're supporting the release of new GNS novels!!!

I understand all that DLS and if the publisher is ONLY aiming to sell it to a select few then fine but that view does seem to be a little narrow to me.
The general public won't care about higher overheads, all they will see is £10.99 for a horror paperback.

This is very true, but I think it's a tricky situation for any small publishers to be in. How do they cut their costs in order for a publication to be retailed at a lower price? It's certainly a head scratcher.
Ebooks are an easy way - but personally, I'd rather fork out the extra cash in order to have a hardcopy of the book.
Another option is to seriously cut corners with the quality of the book. Again...personally (and I accept that this may just be me here), I'd much rather a quality production of a book at a higher price than a cheapo publication at a lower price. This is why I usually opt for hardbacks or special editions of new books.
What do you think?

You are right there. The publisher is at base level a business and businesses exist to make a profit. but sometimes a business has to be prepared to loose money if they value their long term security.
Aswang Press did say that they chose Guy N smith because he is like McDonald's or Coke of Horror - Everybody in horror knows him.
Yet, to me, McDonald's and Coke is an example of cheap and plenty-full.

The price of books is always an issue, especially with POD books which are expensive to print because they are only printed as they are ordered. The only way to print books cheaply is to print them in bulk and then hope they sell. But there are so many considerations. How well known the author is. Where are the books available. The list is endless and there's no definitive answer. If I'm buying expensive books, I like to have them signed and as a limited edition, that way I know I'm getting something special. But I don't see why a publisher wouldn't want a web presence. And to say it's expensive to set up a website is phooey. I pay less than £30 a year for mine, but there are plenty of places that do them cheaper. From £0 upwards.

Yeah, now that is something I don't understand Shaun. they have one book already published and on sale. Why not use the web to push sales. Makes no sense.

Nothing wrong with that, a lot of small presses use them - especially when starting up. Odd about the no-website though. At the moment it seems the only place you can order this book is via the GNS site. Is on Amazon yet, does anyone know?

It's advertised on there but not available.
And my poison is Wimpy. A higher quality product then the competitors but bloody expensive. Now am I talking about Wimpy or Guy's new book?
Coincidently just how many Wimpy's are there compared to McDonald's?

Coincidently just how many Wimpy's are there compared to McDonald's? Ah, Wimpy. I loved those in my younger days. Very few left down south, alas. Henley-on-Thames had one, but that folded five years ago. That was the last time I had a Bendy-Burger. Bloody McDonalds are all over the place, like a bad rash.

I agree on the no-website issue. At least something to help push sales would be something.
I don't think Nightspawn is a POD book - although I'm no expert. It does seem to be a good quality production.

Perhaps someone could persuade the publishers to sign up on BHN and explain why their book is £10.99 and why they seem rather reluctant to use the web to drive sales.

I think 10.99 is a tad expensive, even for POD. My US-published books are POD-printed if sold in in the UK, and they're usually in the 7-8 quid range depending on currency fluctuations
