Ok peeps over the big pond (Canada, USA)
What's the horror book situation like over there? Do you have difficulty in picking up new horror novels in your local bookshop for example?

I would if I had a local bookshop I'm currently 250 miles from one. The local pharmacy, just avross the road, bizarrely enough, has a few Leisure titles... I found Gord Rollo's The Jigsaw Man there a few weeks ago.

It's really hard to find good horror titles since the days of the small bookshops have given all of the ground to chain stores such as Borders or Barnes & Noble. You can only read so much King, Koontz or Barker. As I said in an earlier post, it's hard as hell to find anything by James Herbert. When I do find Herbert stuff, I grab it up as quick as I can...

Hi Horrorphile.
This is quite disturbing. I had no idea that you chaps were just as starved of horror fiction on bookshelves as us Brits.
Still, at least you have a few decent publishing houses that are carrying the flag, such as Dorchester Publishing. It's only them and Severn House that are publishing Graham Masterton in the English language!
Ridiculous, isn't it?

Do you guys have charity shops over there?

Yeah, most of the publishing houses are over there, so you don't have to pay a fortune to have books shipped over from the US. But I think wee have it better over here, we are a lot more progressive, remeber they hadn't heard of Richard Layman until long after us

I guess it depends on where you are here in the states but I have no problem at all finding different kinds of great horror. I do have a ton of used bookstores near me though.
