I've just read an amazing book 'Spiteful Jack' by new author Michael Foxx, at least I assume he's new, I've searched around but I couldn't find anything else he's written (but I did find him on Facebook!)
WOW! I had to tell somebody about this book because it has rapidly become one of my favourite horror novels of all time. The story is complex and intriguing and concerns two fallen angels (now demons) who undertake a quest to collect 13 crystal skull artefacts in order to regain their power (and subsequently rise to take the earth and heaven). The skulls are located in museums, collections, etc around the world and much of the book tells of the main demon (Spiteful Jack) both now and in the past, locating said items. (Each aquisition in itself is a fantastic jaunt through the history of some of the greatest villains ever to walk the globe).
But it wasn't that that blew me away...it was the uber-nasty gore! I haven't read anything like it since the early days of my heroes James Herbert & Guy N Smith but this new writer takes it to places that even the old masters never dared!
I can see why there is a 'gore warning' at the start - this really isn't for the feint hearted but it's a roller-coaster ride through revulsion and terror that I will certainly never forget, nor would I want to! Fingers crossed for a sequel.
