Now then, when you are deep inside your horror novel and you are close to the end...
Do you
A) Hope everything is explained in the last chapter - Poirot style
Or
B) Just don't want the explanation to be handed to you on a bloody plate.

Rakie - typical! Lol.
It depends on the kind of novel / style of writing, I think. An explanation is great in a mechanitic / humanistic / mystery-oriented horror novel (eg, anything by Stephen Laws), but not so great in a metaphysical / philosophical book (eg, Clive Barker). It all depends on the author, and their writing style, for me.

i would say an explanation is good but sometimes it ruins the ending, sometimes things just are and thats what makes it scary.

Do you A) Hope everything is explained in the last chapter - Poirot style Or B) Just don't want the explanation to be handed to you on a bloody plate. Too many authors these days allow their books to be read and enjoyed by anyone! Pandering to stupid people who can't put 2 and 2 togther themselves annoys the hell out of anyone with half a brain. Fine, give us some hints and pointers...but these's no need to hand us everything on a bloody plate (as Ian so nicely puts it). I like to have my brain (for what it's worth) engaged when reading a book. Make me think and make me ponder an ending...ultimately I'll like the book more!!! Alas, my view on books is not the law... ...yet!
