Anybody...or anything?
Oh well. The Mysterious Aswang Press has introduced themselves on the GNS forum.
This is what they said...
"Hello message board. We are The Aswang Press and I guess it's time to put finger to keyboard and cull those rumours and conspiracy theories about who we are. WHO ARE WE? A new small press publisher.
YOU HAVE NO INTERNET PRESENCE - VERY DUBIOUS! Not really. We have just completed our first project, Nightspawn. There's little point in setting up a website to promote one book when Guy N Smith has an awesome, already established site of his own that gets tens of thousands of hits a month. Guy kindly agreed to promote the book in both our interests, so we don't need to. Yeah, we could have paid for a web site but then the price of the book goes up to recoup that. We WILL have a web site, but ONLY when we half half a dozen books or so to promote. After all, we have all seen what happens when someone sets up a website advertising dozens of wonderful titles that haven't actually been printed (or even written in some cases). We're willing to be patient - we'll get there.
ASWANG IS IN COLLUSION WITH GUY N SMITH. Sure - in so much as we'll be in collusion with our next published author and the ones after that. Which we're working on as we speak - it's about 6 months off yet but when the next book is in our hands and ready to ship we will tell you about it. Not before. Again - we've all seen the consequences of trying to run before you can walk.
ASWANG IS GWP. No - we're not. Slap the suggestee with a kipper.
YOU DON'T HAVE AN E MAIL ADDRESS: Sure we do. It's just that we don't advertise it. See above comments. We're always happy to hear from people though - let us know what you thought of the book. The AwangPress@aol.com.
WHY CHOOSE GUY N SMITH? Simple: Guy is the horror world's equivalent of MacDonalds or Coke....everyone who reads horror knows him. We are long time fans and when we first started mulling the idea of a small press several years ago we decided we wanted Guy as our first author. Hopefully he'll stay on board...only time (and sales) will tell. We're honoured that he entrusted his book to us and whilst fulfilling our own dream, it also sends out a message to the horror community we're trying to set something special up.
YOU'RE NOT IN THE SHOPS: Not yet. The jury's out on that. After all, if Amazon comes knocking then they want 60% off the cover price. The main high Street booksellers anything from 35% - 50%. We're not ready to give up that sort of percentage when we have a perfectly good online outlet through Blackhill Books.
ASWANG IS AN ANAGRAM OF WAS GNS. We like that one. here's another for the conspiracy theorists: line up the letters of the alphabet. Take out the letters GUY N SMITH. Now take out the letters ASWANG PRESS. Now add some more letters in, take some out, and you have the name of our next release....
It's been a pleasure."
Still lotsa mystery there. UK or US based?
I think I'll pop back and ask them...

HA! I've JUST read that on the GNS board.
I'd better grab a copy of Nightspawn before they run out.

Yeah, I did a bit. Having a family and a mortgage PLUS other bills tends to limit my spending somewhat.

It is quite steep...I'll certainly give you that! If I'm honest, I did ponder whether I should hold out for a cheaper secondhand copy to immerge on Amazon Market Place. However, thinking about the reasonably low print run that the novel will probably have, as well as my need to read it asap, I decided to take the £10.99 bullet. When it arrived I was more than happy with the quality of the book and as such, decided that it was well worth the price.
It also came with a freebie Bamboo Guerillas fridge magnet and Nightspawn keyring, which also helped to sweaten the deal!
