...in e-book form, according to Ceri
(See the reviews for the GR thread)
I'm rather surprised that other horror writers haven't gone down the e-book path and decided to re-release their own out of print novels.
Or have they?

This should have happened years and years ago. By the mid-90s it was obvious the state of the industry meant GNS was unlikely to have hard copy books coming out at regular intervals any more. Once the web took off in the late 90s, he should have seized the opportunity to sell his work in e-form, new material and classics from the archive.
It was a major opportunity lost. Instead he tried self publishing (moderately successful) and then got involved with Clifford Marker (complete disaster) and Neil Jackson (less damaging but always doomed as a long term project).
There have been a number of unofficial plain text GNS e-books floating around the web for years. They're obviously not legit, but at least someone actually made it happen. It's been hugely frustrating as a Smith fan to see virtually nothing happen for years, when with a small amount of effort Smithland could have been turned into something large, enjoyable and profitable.

Back in the 90s, eBooks were a novelty. Even now, they won't replace print books completely - but they will enhance sales of print, as well as giving fans the opportunity to get hold of the back catalogue without having to pay Greedbay prices. But eBooks have to be offered in all formats. This is easily done, anyone can convert a book to Kindle, Mobi, MS reader...but the price of an eBook reader is still off putting. You can now download a free Kindle reader for the PC (here, linky, linky: www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_pc_mkt_lnd?docId=1000426311 ) But going back to what you said, Ian - a lot of writers do indeed have out of print/unpublished works they can release this way, but if they do that it's self-publishing. Therefore they can't offer First Rights, which is what all publishers want - so it's a case of hanging on until the market changes. But I think the market is changing quicker than we all realised... www.helium.com/items/1721968-where-will-british-horror-fiction-go-next

e-books are obviously a fairly poor alternative to the real physical thing. But if I was a writer with a decent fan base and back catalogue, I'd rather be making something via that route, and getting new material out there, than the alternative.

It looks like it wont be long now, hopefully by the end of next week you should be able to get werewolf by Moonlight and The Sucking Pit as e-books on www.guynsmith.com. The price is still being considered.... We are hopefully going to go right the way through Guy's books in chronological order...

Also, is this PDF or will there be a choice of formats for various eReaders?
