Well, I've nearly finished The rats by James Herbert (Again) I love this book, it brings back so many happy memories. not about giant mutant rats, it was the first horror book I read. I was 8.

"The Plague" by Albert Camus. I try to read at least one "smart" book every few months so i can kid people i'm educated.
(also, that one's really good, almost a zombie novel but without the zombies)

The Devil Rides Out - Dennis Wheatley
I go through a need for over the top devil worship every so often and old DW usually works... he was one of my first introductions to horror in novel length... back in around 1969 when I was 11.
The PBs fell apart years ago and I hadn't read him since about 1980. But I recently came across a full set of HBs second hand so I indulged myself.

Bury Him Darkly - John Blackburn
Completely bonkers British horror novel from the early '70s. Great fun -- it moves like a train.

Read The Day of the Triffids today ( while sitting in the local garage waiting room as the car got fixed.)
Still every bit as as good as I remembered it.
