As I've said before, I can read a pulp in a day. Meaning, if it's between 200 and 250 pages, I can read it pretty much straight through, with a break for a cup of tea, that is. ;-)
So when I come across a book that gives me problems, it's all the more pronounced. The dreaded: Books You Couldn't Finish.
It's not even that the books are necessarily bad, it's just that for some reason you can't bond with them, and stop caring about what goes on.
Case in point. The last book I picked up was Maniac by Stuart Friedman. It's a serial killer type book. I ought to have finished it days ago, but I'm now three days into it, and I'm on page 67!
So today, as a treat to myself, I'm putting it aside and moving on to something else. Because there is something about this one that is really driving me to breaking point.
I can't say it's boring. Just uninteresting. I don't know.
What books have YOU abandoned?

Well...I've never actually started reading a novel and then never finished it. HOWEVER... I read the firth third of Stephen King's 'Tommy Knockers' and thought it was so shite that I gave up on it. A number of years later (10+ years that is) I returned to the book and read the whole thing from start to finish. Wasn't quite a crap as I remembered it to be...but certainly not his best work. I also struggled with Shaun Hutson's novel 'Heathen'. My god it's bad! But I still persisted with it incase it got any better (I didn't).

Brace yourselves... I seem to get that a lot . I traded three books and got three John Saul books. The Right Hand of evil was another took me five months to finish it just was kind of boring.

So many books I've wanted to throw across the room, but because I'm scared of missing something I skim read right to the end - just in case it gets better at some stage.
Doesn't always work. Last one was The Testament by John Grisham...
I skim-read it - THEN chucked it across the room.

Far too many to list.
However slightly off topic. I have never managed to strat the finall two David Gemmell novels. I just can't bear the thought that once they have been read there will never be another new one

Up until the other week I gave up on John Farris THE AXEMAN COMETH. I went back and read the thing but boy what a slog. I tend to get through everything I read because it will always niggle me if I don't. I recall a Masterton book I dumped cause it was cack though.
