I'm not sure where this thread should go. Besides that I've already puked a mountain of posts onto the board like an annoying newbie who spends too long on his computer. Which is all true.
Still, this occurred to me and I think it might be interesting.
Without including spoilers - Please God, NO SPOILERS - are there any titles out there that were going along just fine, but then deflated into a soggy balloon right at the climax?
I'll give an example: Ramsey Campbell Ancient Images. It's not about what it says it's about really, and the ending happens "off screen" as it were. Huh?
Dean Koontz, The Taking. Great build up in a (not short) novel, and then it got laughable in the final 20 pages.
And dare I say it - but I actually did have a belly laugh right at the end of Graham Masterton's The Heirloom due to a ridiculous use of a finger.
What are these people thinking? You've got to build up to.... something. You know, the pay off. But some books just lose the plot, as it were.
You got any?
ps: NO SPOILERS PLEASE!

Guy N Smith's 'The Walking Dead' has possibly the worst ending in the history of endings.
Mark Morris's novel 'The Secret of Anatomy' is a fantastic novel that is let down by the last few pages. Such a shame.
Personally, I didn't like the ending to Jame Herbert's 'The Shrine'. But I know others did.
Probably loads more titles I could list...but can't think of any others off the top of my head at the moment.
