I often wonder where inspiration comes from. i mean, i'll be sitting on the bus one day and i'll be staring blankly out the window while my headphones scream some metal goodness in my ears, and then all of a sudden my brain comes alive and starts talking. And sometimes the grip that the inspiration has on me is so intense that i feel that drawing a breath is somewhat difficult (though i suspect thats more from excitement than from anything else)
but other times i'll be sitting with my laptop and i'll be wracking my brains for an idea that just wont come, and eventually i switch my laptop off. thinking that i'm "Just not feeling the story" when its a real lack of inspitartion thats the problem.
Maybe i'm lacking the drive for it just now, perhaps i need somthing to spir me on a bit. like an incentive to get the creative juices flowing again on some normal level. or perhaps i should just get my thumb out my arse and work harder.

Inspiritation comes when you least expect it. Song lyrics have always been a great source for me, I hear a song and think YES! There's a story here - or a music video can have an even greater effect. Radiohead's 'Just' is brilliant, trouble is you watch it and think: 'Those buggers have got there first...' But don't sit in front of a PC screen racking your brain for ideas. They just won't come, and you end up beating yourself over the head for it. Only sit in front of the laptop when you've got an idea. But what you said about the bus trip rings true. Keep a notebook and pen with you, write down those things that spring to mind, the mere act of noting them will keep them fresh in your mind and germinating/festering. Then you can sit in front of the laptop and do the idea justice... Works for me!

Back writing again, i had an idea for a short dark fantasy novel called "The Necromancers Forest" (this is, of course, a working title but i like it, its fairly to the point so it might end up being the acctual title) the idea kinda bloomed before me one day while i was sitting in my living room watching House. i know, funny thing to be watching to get an idea for a dark fantasy story but as all you writers know inspiration can come at the most inopertune moments.
So i had the idea, but i sat on it for a few days, letting my mind work out the basics of the story and when i started writing it the other day the rest of the story just came to me. This is my first attempt at writing anything with a fantasy based theme (not including some stories i wrote when i was 14 because anything i wrote up until last year was gash) and so far i think i'm doing okay. i let my wife read the four odd pages i wrote and she said it was pretty good, i was worried in case the language didnt make sense, but i suppose when writing fantasy and creating your own world you can get away with those things.
So the story has begun and i have many twists and turns for the main character Racksus (again a working name so i may change it). i just need to think about who would be interested in publishing it, who to send it to. maybe send them the first few chapters.

Immanion Press may be a good bet - they do a lot of fantasy and science fiction. www.immanion-press.com/Also, do a search on Your First Novel on Facebook - in fact, join as many writing groups on there as you can. There's plenty of good folk who'll point you in the right direction.
