I've had some great news. I've just received an email from Maria Grazia with a contract confirming acceptance of my story Daughters of the Night for HorrorBound's Fear of the Dark anthology! Payment is one Canadian cent per word (mine was a 5000 word story) and one contributor's copy. I'm over the moon. HAPPY CANADA DAY! Well done that man!

Now I'm dying to know who the rest of the contributors are...

Interesting developments. A story I submitted to Permuted Press came back with a very detailed critique and an offer to go into the next round if I make some of the improvements suggested.
No guarantee that I'll make the final cut, but still nice to see that it wasn't a rejection - and the editor made some very good suggestions.

They do good editing work after acceptance as well. Is this the time travel one?

Thanks, chaps and chapesses! The revisions and edits are done - I even managed to shave 1,000 words off as well, which is something else Lane wanted. Just going to let it cool before I do the final look-over and submission. Now, on to my next installment for the Underground Rising project, and then back to Fairlight (three chapters done so far).

I just heard from an antho (not Permuted) who said they'd get back to me soon... after they've read the other 420 submissions they received!
And that's just a small antho, not publicised much, and not one of the big paying ones. I can't imagine how many entries some of the more noticeable ones get...

And that's just a small antho, not publicised much, and not one of the big paying ones. I can't imagine how many entries some of the more noticeable ones get... Yep, this is the problem now. As so many houses are closed to submissions, the other markets (semi-pro and token - hell, even non-paying) are being flooded. Interesting discussion on this on Merchant's Keep forum: Jerrod Balzer said: 'Well, once the economy went to shit, so did sales. When the news has stories of the big houses suffering, you know the smaller ones are struggling for sure. A lot of places cut down on how many projects they took on, while other places folded. This means more authors not finding home for their work, so the slush piles for those houses who are open get enormous. Eventually, they had to stop taking them or they'd be putting more time into reading submissions than working on the projects they already have.' www.merchantskeep.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=499What's the name of the antho you submitted to, Willie?
