This ground-breaking series of books were my second introduction to the world of horror fiction. My mum had loads of them and there were many a time when I'd sneak one out of her bookcase to read in bed. Better than Secret Seven and Famous Five any day.

My mum had loads of them and there were many a time when I'd sneak one out of her bookcase to read in bed. Better than Secret Seven and Famous Five any day. Definitely. What was so nice about them was that as the series progressed, all the stories became more modern - and indeed, nastier. Who has the 30th Pan Book, anyone? I had it once, but alas no longer...

Sorry Steppsy, the closest I've got to that is 20th. I do have the first editions of third and fifth though.
And yes Willie he is. I've tried to get him on here to give us some more info.

Any members here have one for sale Sorry, Erebus. Them 30s are like gold dusted hen's teeth. Keep searching on eBay, sometimes you'll get a bargain if the seller mistypes the description.

I'm always looking my friend, but as of yet to no avail. I'm contemplating re-reading through the whole series from 1 to 29 ( grrrrr) this summer. I would post my views on each story/volume here but there seems to be little or no interest for this classic series on the forums.

I would post my views on each story/volume here but there seems to be little or no interest for this classic series on the forums. Plenty of interest on the books at the Vault. Perhaps you should post up your reviews there... vaultofevil.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=panspeopleAlthough I'm still interested in what people made of the books. Particularly the later editions. But then I frequent both forums!

The site is fine the way it is. Its people today who need improvment. We here are a dying breed. Tell anybody in todays society that your hobby is reading old british horror novels and they will either look at you stunned or roll around on the floor and call you a nerd or something. Then probably go and smoke their next brain destroying joint. Also I believe we here are a certain age group. I am 38 and I would gather the other members here are in or around that limit when we could recall the books mentioned here actually being recently published. Today in the days of mobile phones, playstations and the internet the good old book has become rather redundant in peoples lives. And a trip to your local Waterstones will also show you Horror novels are quickly becoming a thing of the past. We just need more old fashioned folks here thats all. But its finding them .And are there any left ?

This thread is veering towards ageism!!!! Not all of those who immerse themselves in pulp horror and live in houses built from paperbacks are creaking at the joints. I for one am merely a slip of a lad. Fresh out of my shorts and wet behind the ears. And WalkinDude (before he was involved in a tragic nose-picking accident) was younger still - but still enjoyed a thick slab of the 70's pulp goodness. What we need is more people on this board fullstop. The more varied the age range the better in my opinion. Next stop....puberty!!!! Can't wait!

And let us not forget that the man who has resurrected the Pan Book o' Horror at last year's WHC is none other than Johnny Mains - and he's a mere slip of a lad, born in 1976!
Gah! These bloomin' overachieving young 'uns! When I were his age etc...
