i enjoyed 'on writing horror' by the HWA and kings 'on writing' but couldn't agree more with some of the above comments, you just have to find what works for you and go with that (once you've sorted the basics obviously...)

This looks like it would definitely be worth reading. As far as I'm concerned, writing isn't something you learn to do well except by practising and doing it yourself. You have to find what works for you. I have read a few "how to" books that I have borrowed from the library. I don't take them as gospel but have taken quite a few very useful tips from them. Certainly can't hurt to read as much and get as many tips as you can, whether you use them inthe end or not.

I tried writing many years ago,sort of short story thriller/crime/horror elements have actually found what i did,hand written,on scrap paper 3 short but unfinished stories,when i get time i will tidy them up,and post them,not sure how good or bad they are...
