Hmm. Dark Horizons didn't want Sunrise at the Portara - although they did ask for extra time to consider it for the spring issue. Not strict horror and not straight sci-fi either - but a time-travel theme means it could fall more into the latter category. So I've sent it to these guys: dailysciencefiction.com/Another nice write-up of False Light over on the Lovecraft eZine cheered me up: lovecraftzine.wordpress.com/issues/false-light-by-adrian-chamberlin/But remember! That tale was first seen on this luvverly forum first!

It's certainly the best I've done... 10c/word was the previous milestone. Basically it's $135 (or 85 quid) for a 900 word flash piece. It was my 1st submission to them, so I'm gobsmacked. They turned up recently on RALAN.COM as taking esubs so I thought I'd give it a go.

Well, I've now joined the Dark Side. No, I haven't switched recurve for compound... I've got a Kindle! And I love it. Already filling it up with various works from our luvverley writers on here, and have downloaded a nifty tool that converts PDFs to Mobi files (cheers, DLS). Half way through Iain Banks' Transition (print version), then I'll be reading digitally for a while. Oh - and that nice Ginger Man, Mr McLeod, interviewed me on his Ginger Nuts of Horror. Thanks for having me, Jim. ;D Interview here: thegingernutcase.blogspot.com/2011/03/adrian-chamberlin-interviewed.htmlBTW, Jim's still looking for books for his appeal, so please contact him if you have any you can donate.

Well, finally found a home for SUNRISE AT THE PORTARA. It's been accepted by Unearthed Press for their third Anthology of Ichor, coming out this summer. Alison J Littlewood was in the last one, and in this volume I'm sharing the TOC with brother French! Also, my 2009 story CRABMEAT has made it into the Spinetinglers 2010 anthology - many thanks to those of you who voted for me. Karmas all round.

AUSTIN 2011 - Days One and TwoEvening all. I'll keep a regular commentary going on here about WHC (kicks off tomorrow). I won't bore you with too many details about my trip, suffice to say that so far I really like this place. Austin feels more like a European city than my expectation of an American one (don't forget, this is my first trip to the states). Very laid back and pleasant, and everyone has been so friendly. To get in horror-ific mode, I took a trip to the Museum of Weird on East Sixth Street (a funky district in itself - like a more laid-back version of San Antonio's West End). The museum is fantastic, very similar to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, with shrunken heads, a 3000 year old Egyptian mummy and...Pancho Villa's trigger finger! Loads of photos taken, will be up on Friendface soon. www.museumoftheweird.com/All the beer so far has been crap - as expected. No worries with that, though, because with this heat I've been craving diet coke and Dr Pepper. Had a nice few drinks in the airport lounge at Atlanta, though, with a few folk who instantly became good friends. John Prescott very kindly phoned me yesterday morning at the hotel to welcome me to the states. He and DM Youngquist are a few hours from Austin and a meet-up tonight, before the hard work of WHC begins in earnest. Tracie McBride's flying in today from Oz, so she'll probably be worn out and unable to make it tonight - but we'll see. I'll drop y'all a line tomorrow with details of The First Day.

Cool beans!!! How was the flight? What's the weather / temperature like over there? How was last night's meet-up? Do keep us informed of your exploits good sir. I'll be checking up on here each day. Shame the beer's crap. But that's to be expected. However... If you can find it, and you fancy a small drop of the good stuff, you may want to dabble with any of these US bourbons (some popular, some quite rare, but all from the good ole US of A): - Basil Hayden's Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- Bernheim Original Wheat Whiskey
- Buffalo Trace
- Cutty Sark (25 y/o)
- Eagle Rare (17 y/o)
- Thomas H Handy - Sazerax Rye
- Knob Creek
- Maker's Mark
- Mellow Corn
- Van Winkle - Family Reserve Rye
- Wild Turkey - Rare Breed
- Woodford Reserve
Incidentally, if you do happen to stumble across a miniature of any of those fine US whiskies, and the mood takes you, then please feel free to bring one back with you. I would happily cross your hand with the required silver for a wee miniature of any of them (well, apart from Maker's Mark or Knob Creek which you can easily get over here)!!! Looking forward to the next update squire...

Glad you made it over there safe and sound Ade. I've seen the pics of the DC stand over on Failbook. Very impressive.
Shame about the beer but that's to be expected.

AUSTIN 201 - Days 3, 4, 5...
Oh God. Sorry, I meant to do a daily update on this but just didn't have the time.
I'll be writing a full report on WHC, with nice tales of the Bat Cruise Launch, the luvverly folks we met (and the arseholes!) the signings and the booksales, the readings and the panels.
This'll be going in the summer issue of GR with pictures a'plenty - but I'll also put it up here.
Suffice to say that I'm relaxing after a hard - but fun - weekend, gathering my thoughts and notes before I put digital pen to digital paper. We made a very good impression on the horror writing community, I didn't get drunk once (honest!) and we didn't insult anyone...although John Prescott's face was a picture every time a certain ex-Leisure author passed by. Looked like he wanted to twat him... ;D
Will report soon, BatFans.
Oh, BTW - there seems to have been a bit of a f*ck-up with the print copies going through on Amazon and co. It's an Ingram/Lightning Source fail, but will be resolved shortly. The print copies will be available to order from those channels early next week. Sorry for the delay - but, 'twern't us, guv!

Excellent, excellent, excellent stuff!!! Glad to hear it's been a blast thus far. Looking forward to hearing and reading all about it. Not much going on back here in Blighty. A royal wedding, voting on how we vote, Ted Lowe's popped his clogs (plus Higgins won the World Snooker Championship), and I finally painted our fences!!! So pretty much a standard few day so far... Glad you're having a good one handsome. Oh, and I've emailed you the review btw.

Don't you take too long with the write up good sir! Okay, it's coming up now. This is a rough draft of what will be in the next issue of Graveyard Rendezvous - what I'd like from y'all is some feedback, questions and queries etc, so that I'll remember what I've forgotten - if that makes sense! And there'll be pictures in the GR version. DLS, I'll burn all the snaps and videos onto a CD for when I see you next weekend. Okay...

Just finished reading your write-up squire. Top darts! Excellent write-up for what sounded like a truly amazing time. And well done with the launch. What a great way to get DCP out there.
How was the ChiZine do? I've been chatting with a few of the guys from ChiZine over the last 6 months (I'm one of their reviewers). They keep releasing more and more exciting new titles. Did you get to chat with any of them...nab any freebies?
Looking forward to seeing the pics next weekend. Alas, your trip to Texas is going to kinda put a day out to Porthcawl into perspective now!!!
Anyway, cheers again for the write-up. I'm sure I'm not the only one who very much appreciates the time and effort you clearly put into putting it all down.
May I be the first (and hopefully not the only one) to throw a well deserved Karma your way...
