District 13: Ultimatum - Not as good as the first film, but there was plenty of action and fight scenes.

FarCry - Uwe Bollock's disastrous take on the FPS game. Got halfway through, fell asleep, then the TV broke. As its a combi, I couldn't get the DVD out so I'm spared the horror of watching the rest of it

Avatar.
Visually, it's fantastic. Right from the opening, the 3D images blew me away. The forest world of Pandora looked spectacular, especially the night scenes with the luminescent plant life.
But...storywise, it just doesn't live up to the hype. Lots of tree-hugging, drippy-hippy nonsense as the lead 'goes native' and learns the ways of the blue people. Dances With Wolves...or in this case, Dances With Smurfs.
The military Earthmen are the bad guys, of course, and there's plenty of feeble analogies to the current US war machine. Quotes such as 'fight terror with terror' and 'shock and awe'...and so on.
And that bloody awful Leona Lewis song at the end...Jesus.
Still, much better than Shiteanic, and it's worth watching for the visuals. Just don't go in expecting the film to match the hype.

Antichrist, Lars von Trier's latest.
You'll either love it or hate it. For me, the best part was the opening five minutes. All in slo-mo, beautifully shot in black and white with an operatic soundtrack where Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg make love while their child falls to his death.
The nasty bits you'll all have heard of - the gential self-mutilation is interspersed with Charlotte's memory of the child's death, an act of self-loathing as she remembers that her orgasm made her unaware of her child's imminent danger. I think.
Dreams intrude on reality - the talking fox says 'CHAOS REIGNS' to Dafoe, and there's a rather chilling ending which I won't reveal here.
I think it needs a second viewing before you make your mind up fully about it. And even then, you may still be undecided.

Best way to describe it is a completely ridiculous horror thrill ride right from the word go!!! I went to see Ninja Assasin recently, pretty good if somewhat completely pointless. films i recommend: Zombie Land and Jennifers Body!

Taking of Pelham 123.
Dear God. Yet another remake. None of the class of the original, and the usual feeble car-chase-shoot-em-up ending. And every other word from Travolta was motherf*cker - I don't mind swearing, but this was f*cking ridiculous.

I was talking to my mate who had watche 'Michael Bay presents: Friday the 13th' now the original is in one of my top 10 all time horror awesomeness and they go and remake it, my mate said that it was the biggesat pile of pish he had ever seen. So Bay ruined Transformers, Friday the 13th and now he's ruining A Nightmare on Elm Street. What a prick!

Predators.
6.5/10
The film started slow, and struggled to really get going. The characters lacked, well, character and they were all predictable. Nothing new, but still glad I saw it all the same.

The Road. 4/10. I found it almost as bad as the book - it was only slightly better because it didn't take as long to get through. It was rambling with no plot and no point to it. And having been raised in a post apocalyptic type world, the 'boy with no name' was the least savvy survivor I've ever seen and he wouldn't have lasted long in real life.

I quite enjoyed the film, but was let down by the ending - a little too hopeful and optimistic. I haven't read the book because I read No Country For Old Men and found it a real struggle. I can't stand all this don't-bother-to-use-quotation marks-for-dialogue-nonsense. One of the few times the film is better than the book it's based on, and I guess The Road will be no exception.

I saw Shutter Island the other day. Loved it. Dark corridors, insane people, the claustrophobic feel of the island... and a great ending. I'd watch it again.
