In addition to some already mentioned I would recommend Apartment 16 by Adam Nevill, because it's a real return to old school horror values. Very atmospheric, and meticulously researched too.

Hmmm, this category seems to comprise authors recommedning their own books under a thinly disguised user name.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it ian. Not flawless, but I really liked it. The Leaping by Tom Fletcher is a good one too.

Audrey's Door by Sarah Langan won the Stoker Award in the U.S., beating out these novels (I've not read Langan's or these, but she garnered decent reviews, including national papers I think): • Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry; Quarantined by Joe McKinney; Cursed by Jeremy Shipp

To be honest I found those three books to be very poor. Escpecially patient Zero Hmmmm...interesting Mr Bond. TBH - I purchased a hardback copy of Patient Zero when it was first published; somewhat persuaded to part with a bundle of my hard earned cash due to the hype that surrounded the release of the novel. Upon it arriving (I bought my copy from Amazon I believe) I read the brief synopsis, scanned through a couple of pages, and then put it up on my bookshelf 'to be read at a later date'. The writing and premise seemed a little tedious and more of the same old zombie fiction style, and as such, I've not once reached for the book since I put it up on my 'zombie fiction' shelf. One day I will read it...and I'll probably end up agreeing with the ginger one. But you never know!

my pick for Book of the Year (so far) is "Ex-Heroes" by Peter Clines. Zombies and superheros, oh my (and, imo, done even better than by the estemed Mr Kirkman). Just don't read the reviews on Amazon, those bastard things are full of spoilers. ;D
