Well, here's the thing.....
I admit to having trouble with the 'competition' element of this. I'm new to the board, and I feel there's a danger of alienating someone in one way or another. Does that make sense?
Also - and this is a compulsive element of mine - I can't help but ponder over things I'd change, things that bothered me etc. None of the tales in this poll are out and out bad, so it's difficult, and I sure as hell don't know enough to make suggestions!
And then, you know, what the hell do I know?!?! I've only just got back to reading fiction after a 20+ year break! I wrote my first short story a couple days ago for this site, so technically I'm in a bit of a mire. In such times I tend to fall back to the "Well, at least I know what I like."
So as I say, I read each of the stories (over a few days) and now I've voted. I'm sure people won't mind, but you can only vote for one!
Anyhow, Ian sounded like he wanted to encourage people to participate, so I did. Another vote added!
And if I can read them and vote, I'm sure some regulars can too! Hell, if you're a guest on here, sign up and give some feedback!

Vaughan, don't worry about alienating anyone. We've just entered for fun, there'll be no damaged egos amongst those of us who don't win - besides, we always have the 'I WIN' board as compensation...

ok, my votes in!!!
I had a wee idae for this thread. even if its all in the name of fun do you think it would be worth it opening up a criticism thread for after the poll ends? just to discuss what the authors could have done better or what they maybe should not have done. I think that would be pretty useful!

I think that would be pretty useful! As long as none of you bastards criticise my epic tale, then that seems like a reasonable idea. I still have to read the shorts before I vote (spent the entire weekend entertaining Jennifer's father and his partner, so haven't had a chance yet). I will vote in the not too distant future...

We could open up a new poll to ask whether folk WANT their work to be ripped to bits.
Personally, I would welcome it.
